Abstract

Electroencephalography is a diagnostic technique widely used in the case of epilepsy. It is a very effective tool for understanding the complex dynamic behaviour of the brain. Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders, characterized by unexpected electrical disturbances of the brain. This article presents the application of Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) for the analysis of EEG (Electroencephalogram) signals. The objective of this work is to automatically detect dysfunctions of the patient's brain from the analysis of these signals. The proposed method allows the detection of epileptic abnormalities in EEG signals by combining EMD and TKEO (Teager-Kaiser Energy Operator). The use of this method gives an efficient time-frequency analysis of nonstationary signals.
