The article deals with the active and interactive methods of teaching a foreign language to students of a technical University. Special attention is paid to the general features and differences between these two methods, the goals and principles of the interactive learning. Various types of the most popular kinds of the interactive methods of teaching are paid special attention to as well as the use of the Internet resources in foreign language classes, which contribute to the development of students’ communication skills. The survey regarding the improvement of foreign language skills using the network resources was being conducted among the second-year students of the Surgut institute of oil and gas (a branch of the industrial university of Tyumen in Surgut), the results of which are presented in the given article.
