Applications of Magnesium Metal Matrix Composites-A Review

J. Leela Krishna, Kolla Srinivas and M. Gopi Krishna
Abstract

Magnesium based alloys and composites are present-day biocompatible materials apposite for orthopedic implants because of their biodegradability in the biological environment. Numerous investigations demonstrate that there is popularity to fabricate magnesium composites. In this investigation, the corrosion measurements along with the corrosion protection methods in magnesium-based alloys are conferred. Exceptional consideration is given to the most current research brings about metal matrix composites made out of magnesium alloy matrix and calcium phosphates, particularly tricalcium phosphate or hydroxyapatite as the second stage with an accentuation on the biodegradation conduct, microstructure and mechanical properties in perspective on the potential use of these materials in bone implantations.
