Nowadays, malicious software (also known as malware) is a primary threat to the security Internet-connected computers and networks. This paper explores malicious software, their types and countermeasures for preventing the Internet attacks. We provide an updated review of various viruses, worms and Trojan horses, by taking into account the harm inflicted by them.
