Abstract

The fabulous growth in the field of wireless technologieslead to the discovery of more and more innovations in this field. Also, there is a huge hike in the total number of devices being used every day leading to scarcity in spectrum resources. Simultaneously spectrum underutilization also prevails which paved the way for the development of Cognitive Radio technology. Spectrum sensing is one of the important function of cognitive radio. Various sensing algorithms can be used to sense the existence of a primary (licensed) user in its frequency band. In this paper, a novel weight based improved double threshold cooperative spectrum sensing is being proposed to perform sensing and improve detection in cognitive radio networks. The developed algorithm is being simulated using MATLAB and the results are compared with the single threshold method of sensing. There are about 86.2%, 66.6% and 89% increase in detection at false alarm probability of 0.1 for weight based improved double threshold CSS using OR, AND and Majority fusion methods respectively.
