Abstract

The major aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of elastic supports stiffness as linear and torsional springs on the natural frequencies when the plate is subjected to static in plane compressive load. The plate is assumed to be simply supported along two parallel edges and elastically supported along the other two edges. An analytical solution is adopted depending on Levy’s solution which is based on small deflection theory. The effect of the values of both of linear and torsional stiffness on the natural frequencies and buckling load are studied for different values of aspect ratio. The results of the present work, regarding to the natural frequency and buckling load, were compared with other published works. Good agreement is obtained. It is concluded that increasing both the linear and torsional support stiffness leads to increasing the values of natural frequency and buckling load for all aspect ratio values.
